WASHINGTON
Submitter: Janice HATCLIFF nursejh@cox.net
Date: 23 April 2005
My husband and I lived in Roswell in the mid 1950s when my husband was stationed at Walker Air Base. Soon after he finished his tour, we left there and moved to Lubbock, TX. In 1963 we adopted a little girl from Roswell. Before adoption, my daughter's name was Maria Thresea WASHINGTON.
Our adopted daughter is now 48 years old and would like to find her mother if she is still living. Her mother's name was Herta Arlt WASHINGTON, and she was married to an airman, Arthur Lee WASHINGTON. He had adopted Teresa before he and Herta came back to the States from Germany. I believe there was a divorce, and he was awarded custody of the children.
He was a a black man, and the mother was white. She walked out on the family and would not care for the children. Arthur did not want to take Teresa with him to Chicago.
He is now deceased, and so is Teresa's brother, Bernard. She has a half sister in Chicago, but apparently Herta, her mother, didn't stay to rear her either, so she does not know where her mother is.
If you have any information on Herta Arlt WASHINGTON, please contact me.

I am seeking any information on my father, Jackson Wade STEVENSON, born 10 May 1918 in Caddo County, Oklahoma, died 3
November 1992 in Roswell, Chaves County, New Mexico, buried in South Park Cemetery.
I never met my father who was married to my mother, Joann VICKERY, in Carmel, California in 1953. They separated while
my mother was pregnant with me.
I know my father lived for a time in Ruidoso, and that he married a woman named Edna. I assume that there are children
of that union, and there was also a daughter named Jackie, who was from a marriage prior to my mother's marriage.
My mother cut me off completely from my father and his family. I am trying to reconnect with anyone in the family or
anyone who knew them.
All assistance is appreciated. Thanks so much!

I have in my family records a letter from J.C.C. I am trying to find out who this is. On the return address, it says:
the old man, Lower Penaso [Peñasco], Chavez County, New Mexico, and is postmarked June 5, 1900.
This letter was written to my great-grandfather, James Elias Jones in Emery, Arizona. In the letter, he affectionately calls my granddad "Warbug." He asks him if he "ever aims to come back to Weed."
I believe J.C.C. was a single, old man because of other things he writes in the letter. He also indicates he is getting old and sick. He also tells him "I saw a cow and a yearling the other day and it made me think of you."
Any clues as to who J.C.C., the old man is would be sincerely appreciated.

She is the daughter of William R. SIDES and wife unknown. She was born in Williamson Co., TX. about 1859. They were still in Texas in 1880 and had one son, William. I don't have any idea when they moved to New Mexico, or if Amanda came back to Texas after becoming a widow. Any information you have and would be willing to share on this family would be appreciated.

I really would like to know where Amanda SIDES PENDERGRASS died. Her husband Joseph died in Roswell in 1930 and is buried in Parkview Cemetery, Chaves Co. N.M. Would like to know if Amanda is there as well. I don't remember the name of the town though, but seems like it was Roswell. I have no idea when or where she died. She is the daughter of William R. I am looking for the grave of my sister, Alta Irene STUART, died January 1932, and is buried somewhere in Dexter, New Mexico. If anyone has the resources to search for individuals in cemeteries, I sure would appreciate your help.
